Join Open City for a walking tour exploring the unique architecture of Chelsea from Sloane Square to Imperial Wharf

This walking tour focuses on key architectural and townscape features which can be found on either side of the King’s Road — a former private route connecting Whitehall to Bishop’s Palace in Fulham.

This engaging and accessible walking tour — led by Golden Key Academy graduate Sarah Jackson — introduces the history of the area’s development and reveals a series of its lesser-known landmarks.

Loosely following the Kings Road between the River Westbourne and Counters Creek, this tour goes beyond the stereotypical view of Chelsea, and looks at the range of housing types, open spaces and public amenities in this dense residential district.

Providing a fun way for enthusiastic urbanists to explore the city, this tour explores the architecture and history of Peter Jones and Sloane Square, Royal Avenue and the Kings Road squares and social housing at Chelsea Common.

Explaining what makes these memorable built environment highlights so unique — it also includes Riverside Old Chelsea, the Worlds End Estate and a chance to go inside the newly restored Lots Road Power Station.

Sarah Jackson is an architect and townscape consulting working in London. Jackson is a graduate of the 2021 Golden Key Academy — a masterclass for urban and architectural tour guiding run by Open City. She joined the Open City tours team in April 2022.
