London’s future is in the east where some of the world’s most famous architects are transforming this historic industrial landscape into a place to live and work.

Departing from Greenwich the tour will see Benedict O'Looney — Open City’s specialist Architecture on the Thames guide — share the microphone with Eric Reynolds.

Reynolds, founding director of Urban Space Management has been involved in numerous urban regeneration schemes since the early 1970’s. His projects include setting up Camden Lock Market, creating Merton Abbey Mills, bringing new life to Spitalfields Old Fruit and Vegetable Market, Gabriels’ Wharf and turning Greenwich Market around.

Since 1998 he has been running Trinity Buoy Wharf (TBW) which has a mix of historic and new buildings where he created Container City, USM’s design and build side based around re-using shipping containers. He leads USM’s work at Trinity Buoy Wharf, home to London’s only lighthouse as a centre for arts and creative activity.

A dramatically different landscape to that of central London Thames embankments, the tour will take in landmarks including Richard Rogers’ Dome, the vast Tate and Lyle Sugar Refinery in Silvertown, the Thames Barrier, Joseph Bazalgette’s amazing Victorian Grade I listed Crossness Sewage Treatment Works and Ford Dagenham.

This unique riverside tour offers a fresh perspective on London’s emerging and established skyline and is led by our specialist guide Benedict O'Looney. Benedict's in-depth knowledge – founded on his work as a practicing architect based in Peckham and a teacher at the prestigious Architectural Association – guarantees deep insight and thoughtful commentary.
