Join Open City Friends for this guided tour Australia House.
Australia House is the home of the Australian High Commission in London and holds a unique place in history as the oldest continuously occupied foreign mission in London. Designed by Scottish architects, Mr A Marshall Mackenzie and Son, the building was opened by King George V in 1918. The construction utilised Australian materials, including marble from Victoria and New South Wales and hardwood timbers from across the nation. The building has served as a vital connection between Australia and the UK, representing both our cultural heritage and modern-day relationship.
About the Australia Unveiled Exhibition
Australia Unveiled is an art exhibition celebrating the vibrant creativity and cultural depth of Australia’s contemporary art scene. As the centrepiece of this year’s Australia Day celebrations, the exhibition will transform the iconic Exhibition Hall at Australia House into a gallery showcasing a curated selection of works by some of the country’s most prominent artists.
Presented in collaboration with UK-based galleries Messums, JGM Gallery and Green & Stone Gallery, the exhibition highlights the strong artistic ties between Australia and the UK. Through its diverse collection, Australia Unveiled offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Australia’s cultural identity and explore its contribution to the global art landscape.
